The Old Port of Montréal, a division of Canada Lands Company, is a recreational and tourist site that welcomes more than 6 million visitors per year and has been offering a variety of family, water and leisure activities for more than 25 years. It is home to the Montréal Science Centre, the second largest science center in the country with over 650,000 visitors annually, which offers numerous opportunities for scientific discovery as well as larger-than-life IMAX® films.
It also has magnificent terraces, a fine sandy urban beach and one of the finest skating rinks in the country. Its diversified programming features a wide range of cultural, culinary, sports and musical events as well as outdoor festivals, including internationally renowned ones such as Cirque du Soleil and Igloofest.
The Old Port also has a rich history in terms of technology, industry, ports and shipping. An important part of Quebec and Canadian heritage, it is adjacent to Place Royale (the birthplace of Montreal), the St. Lawrence Boulevard National Historic Site, and the Lachine Canal National Historic Site. One of its emblematic buildings is the Clock Tower, erected between 1919 and 1922 to mark the entrance to the port and to commemorate the sailors lost at sea during the First World War.
